Vilna [VILNIUS] Defus Ha-Meshutafim, 1799. EXTREMELY RARE! An early edition of the Tosefta (the uncanonized Mishnaic texts), printed in 1799 Vilnius, and is one of the first books to be printed by the Hebrew presses of that city. The text was compiled based on incomplete manuscripts by the Dayyan of Vilnius, Jonah ben Gershon, who devoted much of his life to the study of the Tosefta. 210x180mm, 122 double pages. Blue quarter-cloth hardcover. Cover worn, bumped and detached. Spine missing. Pen inscription and stamps on title page. Pages browning. Worm holes near page edges, with little damage to text. Last page detached and torn at edges. Despite the aforementioned wear, this rare book is in good condition for reading. The book is in: Hebrew. ME 02 06.
