Vockerodt, Gottfried (1665-1727)
Historia Societatum Et Rei Literariae Ante Diluvium Autore M. G. Vockerodt. Accessit fragmentum ex Libris Henochi de Egregoris com versione nova.
Bauhofer, Jena 1687 - 190 x 155 mm, [2 ] , 46 pp., wrappers. This is the first or second publication of Vockerodt (1665-1727) , when he was twentytwo. Later he became professor of philosophy in Jena. The book states that literary culture goes back as far as the period of Noah. In this connection he refers to a Hebrew tradition, according to which there were learning houses of the legendary Shem and Ewer. Adam, and especially Shem were heads of Academies. In describing the beginnings of humanity as an intellectually developed period, he is basing his ideas on the famous Isaac La Peyrere (Pereira), who supposed in his Preadamites, that human society existed before Adam. As 'proofs' he refers to cabbalistic and gnostic sources. Vockerodt also publishes a fragment of the First Book of Henoch, in the Appendix printed in Greek and Latin. Vockerodt is a precursor of prehistoric research. Extremely rare, NUC lists one copy only, but some of his other works are found. [Attributes: First Edition]
