The Second Edition, diligently corrected, and much enlarged by the Author himselfe.
London, R. & W. Leyborn, for Phil. Stephens, 1652. Small 8vo. Contemp. full calf. Traces of use. Endpapers gone. Light wear to top of spine. A small wormhole to upper compartment of spine. Some blindtooling to spine and covers. (16),235 pp. + Publisher's Announcement (5) pp. 12 engraved plates. One plate with a paperloss at upper right corner, no loss of image. Light browning and a few brownspots to the first 10 and the last 4 leaves. Last inner hinge broken. ¶ An early importent and scarce work on the arithmetical system, giving some original definitions. This is the first printing of the revised second part which is for the first time issued separately as here, 1652. A second edition appeared in 1650 (of both parts) as 'Arithmetique made easie.' Wingate himself re-edited part ii., which was published in 1652 as 'Arithmetique made easie. The second book.' (The book offered). The first book ran through many editions, the expression 'natural arithmetic' being discarded for that of 'common arithmetic'."The Line of Proportion" is a logarithmic instrument, which is here depicted in 12 engraved plates.Augustus de Morgan in "Arithmetical Books", mentions some of Wingate's other works, but not this one.
