Tear on bottom of pp.504-505 (65mm) neatly sealed. Occasional spot of foxing but overall a very clean copy with fresh crisp paper. Bound in modern quarter calf with gilt stamped spine. Contains a selection of correspondences by Philip Melancthon (1497-1560) the famous Reformation theologian and preacher. According to the ESTC Melanchton’s epistles published by Flescher and Young were intended to be bound with the “Epistolarum D. Erasmi Roterodami.” The entire collection included a general title page and a specific title page for each book. This volume, however, contains only Melanchton’s epistles and those of Thomas More and Juan Luis Vives – apparently separated from the Erasmus section and bound individually.
