Goodman, Allegra

TOTAL IMMERSION - Scarce Signed Copy of The First Hardcover Edition

New York City, NY: Harper & Row - 1st Printing. Signed. 260 pages. Published in 1989. The author's breakthrough debut collection of short stories. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Written when she was still a student at Harvard University, the eleven stories in this collection received lavish praise from such established writers as Cynthia Ozick, Max Apple, and Chaim Potok. Among other things, Goodman seems to have pulled off two major feats: Capture the unique culture of Hawaii, where many of the stories take place, and evoke the claustrophobic atmosphere of the Jewish community there, a microcosm of Jewish communities everywhere in America. "Allegra Goodman is brilliant, knowing, alive: A marvel. All the muse-fairies were present at her birth!" (Cynthia Ozick). A "must-have" title for Allegra Goodman collectors. This copy is neatly and beautifully signed in blue pen on the title page by Allegra Goodman. It is the most scarce and most collectible title in the author's now considerable body of work. This copy is clean, crisp, and bright, a beauty. A scarce signed copy thus. Selected by The New Yorker Magazine as one of "Twenty Writers for the 21st Century". One of the finest living American writers. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER ALLEGRA GOODMAN TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 0060159987. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
