Volume X from Voyage Aux Sources du Nil, en Nubie et en Abyssinie, Pendant Les Annees 1768. 1772. Paris: Chez Plassan, 1792. William Paterson (1755-1810), who later had a career as a colonial adminstrator in Australia, explored the inland plateau of South Africa in search of botanical and other specimens to send back to England. Sheet (47cm x 64cm), plate (36cm x 55cm). A large, detailed map of the region, the Cape of Good Hope from the Orange River in the northwest to Terre Des Caffres in the northeast, just north of the Great Fish River; clean, bright copperplate image with ample margins on fine, heavy rag paper; simply mounted on white acid-free mat. Skilfully repaired small breaks, newly backed. [Attributes: First Edition]
