Life of S.G.W. Archibald

Huestis], 1881. 18cm, xi, 179p. original blind-stamped black cloth, some slight wear at the edges else very good, rare Archibald was born in Truro, N.S., in 1777 and educated at Andover and Harvard Universities. He was called to the bar of Nova Scotia in 1805, and in 1806 elected to the House of Assembly for Halifax, a position he held until 1835. When the county was divided he returned as representative of Colchester county and remained until 1845. From 1824 to 1828 he was chief justice of P.E.I. In 1830 he was elected speaker of the N.S. House of Assembly, and became solicitor-general of the province. On April 29, 1844, he was appointed master of the rolls, and judge of the Court of Vice-Admiralty. This office he held until his death in Halifax, 1846.
