That is enough to make it collectable, but this copy is the elusive British world first edition, first impression, hardback. It is also SIGNED by the author on the title page. The Faber hardback was printed in a small edition. This copy is perfect, as new and unread, opened only for the signature. Unclipped and protected jacket. The true First Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other editions. Published in a very small first print run to great acclaim including The New Yorker, where it was compared to "Catcher In The Rye". The basis for the comparison is primarily the eponymous character, who, like Holden Caulfield, is a frustrated teenager. If Vernon sounds too intelligent and aware for his age, Joyce Carol Oates quickly points out that the novel's greatest strength is the author's "flawless ear for adolescent-boy speech. To his young narrator, virtually every adjective is 'f-----' and every vision of every adult is laced with repugnance, especially those adults in authority. Vernon is a Holden Caulfield on amphetamines.
