Pony Express Trail Map and Riders Blueprint
W R Honnell , 1935. Blue print, approximately 48 x 24 inches, folded size is approx. 6 x 12 inches. Map scale is approx. 3 inches = 100 miles. In very good condition. The reverse side of the blueprint to toned on two of the folded panels, a result of being stored in the original mailing envelope, from a Kansas City bookdealer, since January of 1954. This toning and the folds are the only things that keep this blueprint from being in absolutely pristine condition. The print depicts the Pony Express Trail that ran between St. Joseph, Missouri and Sacramento, California with present day state boundaries shown. Each station is identified, and the print also depcits the saddle and Mochila that was used by the riders to carry the mail. The names of the 102 riders are listed on the map, along with the names of the first four riders who departed from St. Joseph, and the first rider who left Sacramento. Jim Moore's 280 mile ride between the Midway and Julesburg stations is shown, along with Buffalo Bill's 322 mile round-trip between the Red Butte and Rock Ridge stations. A print that could be easily flattened, matted, and framed. A nice collectible piece for the Pony Express aficionado.
