Chez La Nouvelle Societe Typographique, Berne (Switzerland) 1782 - xvi, 304 pp. Two folding plates: 1. "Etat des differens corps sous le commandement du comte Cornwallis portant date janvier 1781 & septembre 1781 avec leurs pertes & augmentations." 2. "Etat de l'armee en Virginie le 18 octobre 1781". This collection of secret letters was translated into French and published by order of the British Parliament seeking to clarify who was responsible for the debacles of Saratoga and Yorktown. Two early signatures in sepia ink: "de Thyard" and another which is illegible. An early ink-stamped monogram, "MS", on title page. Bound in speckled calf, spine ruled in gilt with gilt-tooled compartments; red label, gilt-lettered title. All edges red. 2 ½ cm. worm hole to lower front cover; 1 ¼ cm. hole to top back cover through leather, and four small scratches. Top and bottom spine missing ¼ centimeter, edges rubbed. Joints and hinges solid, text clean and unmarked.
