THINGS TO COME ... A FILM STORY BASED ON THE MATERIAL CONTAINED IN HISHISTORY OF THE FUTURE "THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME."
London: The Cresset Press, 1935 First edition. Octavo, pp. [1-9] 10-142 [143-144: blank] [note: first and last leaves are blanks], original blue cloth, front and spine panels stamped in black and gold. The 1936 film, "Things to Come," was based on this movie scenario. Wells was closely involved in many aspects of the making of the movie. The film's majestic budget -- vs. miniscule box office returns -- doomed the whole SF movie genre to B status for 35 years. " ... only in retrospect can we see it as a flawed but brilliant milestone in the history of the SF film." - Menville and Reginald, Things to Come, An Illustrated History of the Science Fiction Film, p. 66. Anatomy of Wonder (1976) 3-67. Bleiler (1978), p. 205. A fine copy in nearly fine pictorial dust jacket [film still] with 10 mm closed tear at upper front spine fold and hint of wear to lower spine end. Uncommon in jacket in this condition. A sharp copy.
