Stain on bottom outer corner of first four leaves. Some soiling and periodic marginalia in an old hand throughout. Contemporary calf boards with small blind stamped center piece on front and rear boards. Re-backed preserving most of the original spine. Board edges and corners are carefully repaired. Publius Ovidius Naso (43 bce - ce 17 ) was the last great poet of the Augustan age. His "Heroides", written in elegiac verse, are a collection of letters written by mythological women to their famous lovers and husbands who had abandoned them. The three surviving epistles of Aulus Sabinus (a contemporary of Ovid) written in reply to some of the heroic poems are also included. Contains commentaries by Guido Morillon and Giovanni-Baptista Egnazio. Scarce edition - Not in Adams, Not in Schweiger.
