Bound in full blind-tooled pigskin over heavy wooden boards. With functioning metal clasps, and metal cornering at foot of front cover, lacking at top-edge of front board, and top and bottom-edge of rear board. An 8x10 cm loss to leather on front cover near foot, leaving board exposed. Paper is bright and text is quite legible. All edges red. Some impact damage to top fore-edge of covers. An early and very fine printing of the definitive edition by Jean Mabillon, OSB, of the Congregation of St. Maur. Superseding that of Johann Horst (c. 1641) and reprinted many times. Contains the complete works, additionally a dedicatory letter of Pope Alexander VIII, short vita of S, Bernard, Flores ex S. Bernardo, Glossarium, Chronologia, the completion of the Commentary on the Song of Songs by Gilbert of Hoyland, various indices, etc. [BN#C.1070] Bearing the stamp of a Mendicant library, from which this volume was withdrawn, in addition to library markings to the spine. Also bearing an ink inscription to front free endpaper.
