Spine professionally restored having six raised bands, blindstamped designs, and gilt lettered leather label. Internally, the leaves are clean and crisp. Quite good condition for this rare work. Engraved Portrait Frontispiece of George Smalridge by G. Vertue and G. Kneller and includes the Smalridge Coat of Arms, "Argent, a cross engrailed azure, between four bustards respecting each other sable" (Parker). Dean of Christ - Church, Oxford (from 1713) and Bishop of Bristol (from 1714). He was honored by Addison, Steele, and Swift and his sermons were classed of those preached by an English divine.
