A little tight in the gutter as often with this title, inoffensive ownership inscription to title, a very good copy. First Edition in English. “Machiavelli founded the science of modern politics on the study of mankind – it should be remembered that a parallel work to ‘The Prince’ was his historical essay on the first ten books of Livy” (PMM 63). STC notes two variants of the title, with no precedence between them: in the present variant, the word “animadversions” is printed in italic; in the other, it is printed in roman. STC 17160.
