Good + This is a pair of very attractive Christmas cards from Colonel and Mrs W. Grant Morden M. P., showing the Battle of Brentford Bridge and the Battle of Turnham Green, from paintings by John Hassall. The Battle of Brentford Bridge, has printed on top Merry Xmas from Colonel and Mrs. W. Grant Morden, the picture is printed in colour in a decorated frame, on the back in black and white is a picture of Heatherden Hall, Iver Heath and is printed "In the month of November 1642, Prince Rupert and his Cavaliers charged Brentford Bridge and people. In the month of December 1928 Colonel Grant Morden and family charge the citizens of Brentford and Chiswick with a host of peace and goodwill wishing them one and all a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.' The top of the card has two small holes threaded with old ribbon where card has been hung on wall. The card is dated 1928. The Battle of Turnham Green has Christmas message printed on top with coloured printing of picture but the reverse side is blank and this card is not dated. There is a tear to bottom edge of the Turnham Green card and blank side is soiled, also cream edges of cards show moderate soiling. Turnham Green is 12 inches by 10 inches and Brentford Bridge is 8 inches by 13 inches. Heatherden Hall is a Victorian estate in wonderful grounds. It was purchased by Grant Morden, a Canadian financier, who transformed the mansion by adding a huge ballroom and Turkish bath. It became a retreat and meeting place for politicians and diplomats and the agreement to form the Irish Free State was signed there. When Grant Morden died in 1934 the estate was purchased by Charles Boot who transformed Heatherden Hall into the office building for a new movie complex which occupied the grounds and named it Pinewood Film Studios after seeing the large number of pine trees that surrounded the area.
