Littleton's Tenures in English.

      Littleton, Sir Thomas [d.1481] - Wambaugh, Eugene, Editor. Washington, DC: John Byrne, 1903. lxxxiv, 341 pp. Contemporary law calf, rebacked retaining original spine with raised bands, red and black lettering pieces, hinges mended. Light rubbing to boards, moderate rubbing with wear to extremities, corners bumped. "F. Pollock/ Linc: Inn" to front pastedown. Faint dampstaining to upper corners of first quarter of text block, interior otherwise fresh. * Written during the reign of Edward IV [1442-1483] and first published around 1481, Littleton's Tenures is probably the most revered treatise in the history of the common law. Much admired for its learning and style, it is concerned with tenures and other issues relating to real property. Sir Frederick Pollock [1845-1937], one of the greatest British judges and legal scholars of his day. His treatises on contracts, jurisprudence the common law and other subjects did much to clarify and systematize English law. Several of these were standard texts that went through several editions. He is also remembered for his collaboration with F.W. Maitland on The History of English Law Before the Time of Edward I and his correspondence with Oliver Wendell Holmes, which was published posthumously as The Holmes-Pollock Letters.
