Ouvrage de morale sur le theme des sept peches capitaux, du philosophe et theologien anglais Robert Holcot (c. 1290-1349), dont la premiere edition semble avoir ete publiee a Venise en 1505. "Robert Holkot belonged to the first generation of scholars to absorb and develop the views of William Ockham. He is particularly known for his "covenantal theology" and his views on human freedom within the framework of a divine command ethics. He developed an original theology grounded in Ockham's logic and metaphysics, and his works were influential into the sixteenth century". (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy). Holkot etait lie d'amitie avec Richard de Bury, l'auteur du "Philobiblon", le celebre traite de l'amour des livres, et la tradition affirme qu'il participa a sa redaction. Par ailleurs un autre ouvrage de morale de Holcot, est considere comme source d'une des histoires de Chaucer (" Nun's Priest's Tale"). L'œuvre de Robert Holcot a fait l'objet de plusieurs reimpressions et etudes modernes. Titre aux encres rouge et noire. Caracteres gothiques, texte a deux colonnes. Bel exemplaire de ce rare volume.
