[52 leaves]. A fine modern rebinding in calf with a bright floral gilt stamp on front and back covers, raised spine bands, red leather title label on gilt-decorated spine, marbled textblock. Lacking the "Dele Stelle Fisse" appendix with star charts. Title page illustrated with wood engraved vignette showing an armillary sphere. Many spherical woodcut diagrams and historiated initials. A traditional Ptolemaic-Aristotelian geocentric cosmography. Piccolomini (1508 - 1579) was an Italian humanist and philosopher who promoted popularization in the vernacular of Latin and Greek scientific and philosophical treatises. In this astronomical treatise he adheres to the Ptolemaic theory, that the Earth is the center of the universe and other objects go around it.
