Petrus Kertzenmacher

Alchimia, Wie Mann Alle Farben, Wasser, Olea, Salia, und Alumina, damit mann alle Corpora

4to. ff [3], 41 [3]. Bound in paper wraps, in a 16/17th century sheet printed in red and black. Lacks original endpapers, leaves xxix (J1), Register (1f) and final two leaves of woodcut illustrations, now inserted in sympathetic facsimile from the 1538 edition in the British Library (shelfmark 1608.2598). The lower corner of leaf 41 repaired, without loss of text. Browned in the gutter. Although imperfect, it is still a fascinating copy of of this important work on early 'technology', including receipts for 'tempering iron and steel, etching and colouring metal, removing stains from clothes, making inks, colours and dyes' (Ferguson, I, p. 19 & 173). [Publisher: M. Jacob Cammerlander]
