A PRINTED LEAF FROM THE FIRST EDITION OF THE "POLYCRONICON" IN ENGLISH, PRINTED BY ENGLAND'S FIRST PRINTER, as part of "A GENUINE CAXTON LEAF FROM 1482.
[Westminster]: William Caxton, [between 2 July and 20 November, 1482]; the later publication issued by Dawson's Bookshop of Los Angeles in the 20th century, perhaps 1934 - Single column, 40 lines and headline, black letter type. Publisher's modern brown sheepskin folder, front cover with border of four blindstamped rules, gilt titling and Caxton's printer's device. With painted red initials and shoulder notes. Rear pastedown with embossed library stamp of the State University of Iowa. One-half-inch of leather missing from head of spine, two other small chips to spine, corners slightly rubbed, light freckled foxing to endleaves and mat, the original leaf with overall light browning and with marginal notes partly trimmed away, otherwise excellent.
