Large illuminated initial "R" containing a miniature of the Resurrection. Germany (perhaps Cologne), c. 1500-

      - Very large decorative initial "R" (cut to shape) which encloses a miniature of Christ standing on the opened tomb while four guards, two of them armed with a sword and bow and arrow, sleep soundly.Detailed landscape background with several buildings, trees and mountains and a reddening sky to herald the breaking day. Size of initial: 151 x 129mm. On verso music with hufnagelschrift notation. 1520. Although somewhat naive, this is a charming miniature making good use of colour.
