DeCASSERES, Benjamin.
THE DeCASSERAS BOOKS [and] GERMANS, JEWS, AND FRANCE [and] FINIS.
New York: Benjamin DeCasseres, (1935-1945). 23 vols, 8vo. Printed wrappers, edgewear w/ closed tears, some spotting/toning to wrappers, otherwise very good. ¶ First Editions, a near complete run of The DeCasseres Books, lacking only volumes two, twenty-three, and twenty-four, with the addition of two other titles. The copies of Paul Jordan Smith, originally, we presume, those of the author and his wife, Bio; Finis has Bio’s name and address in her hand to the upper wrapper. Laid in to volume one is an autograph post card with a warm note from the DeCasseres’ to Smith. ¶ Social philosopher, literary critic, journalist and artist of the iconoclastic school Benjamin DeCasseres (1893-1961) moved in a circle that included Edgar Saltus, James Huneker, and H.L. Mencken, and whose pithy observations remain quite quotable.
