Signed on the title page by William Gordon, Chaplain to the Provincial Congress of Massachusetts and author of a four volume history of the American Revolution. With two library stamps and a later owner's signature on the title page. Scarce. A very good copy. First edition. Charles Chauncy was the most influential clergyman in Boston at the time of the American Revolution. This sermon is a plea to remove sin from a people at war. It discusses the catastrophic depreciation of currency and its effects, and gives an account of the expedition to expel the British from Rhode Island. Evans 15759.
