The work is dedicated to Euler, who wrote his famous work "Dioptrica" from 1769-71. Klügel continued and improved Euler's work, making some importent corrections.Klügel became professor in mathematics at Helmstadt. His extensive work in mathematics - e.g. Lambert, one of the outstanding forerunners of non-euclidean geometry, expressly referred to Klügel, who is also cited by most later critics of the problem of parallel lines - and physics began then and increased after his transfer to the chair of mathematics and physics at the University of Halle.
