The Golden Legende
New York: Dauber & Pine Bookshops, n.d. Quarto. (2) leaves, with an original leaf tipped-in from the first edition of Wynken de Worde's printing of Voragine's The Golden Legend, printed at Westminster in 1498. The leaf is from the rare printing of the text, which was translated into English by William Caxton. Containing part of "The Life of Saint Peter," folio CLXIII, featuring a woodcut of Saint Peter holding keys, the leaf is in remarkable condition. Bound in morocco backed marbled boards with a specially printed title-page reproducing Wynkyn de Worde's beautiful printer's device. Gilt leather label upper cover. Some rubbing and slight wear to binding extremitites, slight bowing and a brief split to spine head, small hole to margin of leaf not affecting text. A nice copy overall. Announcement tipped-in.
