London: W Strahan and T Cadell in the Strand, 1778. [iv] [1] pp2-140 [3 foldout plates] This is the Third Edition of James Ferguson's Introduction to Electricity. Ferguson was a Scottish astronomer and scientific instrument maker. This volume draws inspirations from Ferguson's public lectures on science and was written 'for those who scarce know how to make the common Electrical Experiments, or even how to keep a Machine in good order for that purpose. ' At the end of this volume there are three very attractive foldout plates of Ferguson's electrical inventions, drawn by the author and engraved by Bayly. The binding is full calf leather with some wear to the edges and corners and weakening to the hinges. The spine is flat with gilt bands and a faded red label. The text and plates are browned but in VERY GOOD condition. ESTC T53452.
