Chr - um 120 v. Chr.) war ein antiker griechischer Geschichtsschreiber, der durch sein Hauptwerk, die Historiai, berühmt wurde. In diesem Werk beschreibt er in 40 Büchern die Universalgeschichte Roms über den Zeitraum vom Beginn des Ersten Punischen Krieges bis zur Zerstörung Karthagos und Korinths (264 v. Chr. bis 146 v. Born in Arezzo, Tuscany, Bruni was the leading pupil of Coluccio Salutati and succeeded him as chancellor from 1410 to 1411 and again from 1427 to the end of his life. As a humanist Bruni was essential in translating many works of Plato and Aristotle. Polybius (ca. 203-120 BC) was a Greek historian of the Hellenistic Period noted for his book called The Histories covering in detail the period of 220-146 BC. He is also renowned for his ideas of political balance in the government, which was later used in Montesquieus The Spirit of the Laws and the drafting of the United States Constitution.
