SPHAERA MUNDI
Vencie, Erhardt Ratdolt, 6 July 1482. - Sacrobosco s text is accompanied in this edition by two treatises by Regiomontanus (Disputationes contra Cremonensia deliramenta) and his teacher Georg Peurbach (Theoricae novae planetarum). The tract of Regiomontanus concerns corrections to the planetary tables of Gerard of Sabbioneta. It is followed by Peurbach s Theoricae novae planetarum. Peurbach and Regiomontanus were the outstanding astronomers of their time. Sacrobosco s De Sphaera mundi was the first printed astronomical book and a fundamantal text of medieval and post medieval astronomy. It is a synthesis of Ptolemy and his Arabic commentators. As late as the 17th century it was used as a basic astronomy text. Later vellum, 4 to, 60 unpaginated leaves. 39 woodcut diagrams in text, many two-thirds page, of which 8 had a contemporary coloring. Recased with recent endpapers.
