ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT
BOOK OF HOURS IN LATIN, ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM.
Northern France (most probably Amiens - note on f 10 the Saint St Blandina in the Litany of Saints.) circa 1470 103 leaves 10x7 cms. Leaves numbered 1-36 then change of hand and numbered 36-97 then change of hand 99 with 4 more unnumbered leaves in the same hand as leaf number 99. 2 LARGE ILLUMINATED INITIALS IN GOLD AND BLUE WITH IVY SCROLLS IN THE INNER MARGINS (at f 1 and 14) and 48 initials in red and blue with scroll work (sometimes more than one to a page) and rubrication on many other leaves. 3 leaves of Litany of Saints with each S in alternating blue and red with scrolls at the end of the lines.First gold initial a tiny bit trimmed and a small mark on f 28 but otherwise in very good condition.Bound much later full embossed morocco. A very pretty little illuminated manuscript- the vendor is unsure if it is complete but, naively, nothing appears missing. See photos on russellrarebooks.com
