Madan). Edges speckled red, pages lightly browned, margins cut close but not affecting text, one or two spots of ink or light soil. Bound in contemporary speckled brown calf, later rebacked, gilt border to boards, blind-stamped decorations and red label with gilt to spine, edges a bit rubbed. Bookplate of Watkin Williams Esq. to upper pastedown. The text is an uncredited copy of Gabriel de Petras 1612 edition, but with a new preface and extensive notes (the Notarum Auctarium), which were the first published work of Gerard Langbaine (1609-1658). Dibdin mentions only the 1638 second edition, but calls Langbaines Notarum Auctarium "a very acceptable acquisition" that "has been always welcomed by lovers of Longinus."
