La Citta di Rovigo Capitale della Provincia del Polesine nel Dominio Veneto

      Scarce birdseye view of the town of Rovigo, capital of the 18th Century Dominon of Venice (one of three Venetian regions in the 18th Century). Rovigo traces its roots to the Middle Ages.  The city was the subject of battles between the Este's of Ferrara and the Republic of Venice until 1492, when the Republic won control over the City and region.  Venice controlled Rovigo until the early 19th Century, at which time it briefly fell under French Control, before becoming part of the unified Italy later in the 19th Century. This map appeare in Albrizzi's Storia di tutti i popoli del Mondo, the Italian edition of Thomas Salmon's popular History of the World.   (Venice, 1750) [color: Hand Colored, size: 9 x 6 inches, condition: VG]
