Stipple-engraved portrait by Godby after Jean Pichon, printed in colours and finished by hand, title-page, dedication, 8 hand-coloured plates with tissue guards; portrait cropped (33.5 x 23.5 cm) and mounted; waterstain, some spotting and soiling. Modern light brown calf-backed marbled paper-covered boards, spine gilt. First issue (second in 1814) of this fine collection of Russian military costumes, coloured by hand. Colas suggests that the plates could be by Alexander Orlovskiy on stylistic grounds. The plates are as follows: 1. The Body Guard. 2. Foot Guards. 3. Chasseur Guards. 4. Guard at Night. 5.
