Important as this map is in its cartographic detail, the decorative appeal of Jansson’s work is heightened by the inclusion of numerous small illustrations of native fauna: buffalo, caribou, Arctic foxes, polar bears... while the title-cartouche shows the figures of Floridan and Virginian Indians...” (Goss).
