The set comes with an alphabetical register to the first 41 volumes and the jubilee publications "Gedenkboek 1778-1878", "Feestbundel 1778-1928" and "Verslag viering 100 jaar" and 12 more supplements such as Catalogue of the Library, archaeological, ethnological, numismatical collection etc. *A very rare near complete set of the transactions of the "Bataviaasch Genootschap", the first learned society that was founded in the East. It was founded six years before the Royal Asiatic Society. This set contains a wealth of early and sometimes unique material on the history, anthropology, natural history, medicine, art, linguistics and religion of the Indonesian Archipelago. Also with numerous articles on surrounding regions like Malaysia, Japan, Singapore and Siam. In the early volumes we find among others seven articles by Isaac Titsingh on Japan, two discourses by Thomas Raffles, articles on Japan by von Siebold (e.g. his epitome linguae Japonica), articles on fishes by Bleeker, amongst which an illustrated article on the fishes of Japan, Muller's pioneering paper on cholera in Java, an article by Meijlan on the history of Dutch trade with Japan, Cornet de Groot's work on Javanese grammar, Vosmaer's article on Sulawesi, Happart's dictionary of Taiwanese languages. Also Von Siebold, on the origin of Japanese people and Blume, on Piperaceae of East-Indies with 61 woodcuts and De Groot, Jaarlijkse feesten en gebruiken van Emoy-Chinezen vol. 1(1880) and many, many more. A good set in various bindings. Some volumes with library stamp or worn bindings, a few covers or spines loose. A few indexes not published. Some early volumes in second or third edition.
