Fine early 19th century green morocco almost certainly by Storr and Ridge of Grantham, covers with wide ornamental borders enclosed by gilt fillets, inner border in blind, spine richly gilt and lettered in compartments, blue silk marker, i.e.g., g.e.. 1481. I. First edition, first issue, of this collection of sixteen sermons for Advent, once attributed to the Italian Franciscan Robertus Carracciolus (1425-1495), in which parts of the human body from head to toe are used to illustrate man's spiritual and moral development. Another issued appeared with the outer sheet of the last quire reset and dated 1480. II. This complimentary work by the canon lawyer Joannes Andreas was first published c. 1471 and much reprinted during the 15th century in both Latin and German.A superbly example of early 19th century English binding, almost certainly by Storr and Ridge of Grantham, booksellers and binders, who were much patronised by Sir John Hayford Thorold.Provenance.
