Keller, Bjorn (Artist/Photographer) & Borenius, Lillemor Och Lars & Berggren, Irene (Contributors).

KROPPAR KELLER ("KELLER PHOTOGRAPHS") "Hors De Commerce" (HC) Edition.

Stockholm, Sweden: Galleri Periscope Stockholm, 1990.. . Hardcover. First Edition. First Printing. Fine in Fine Dust Jacket. Collection of color photographs. One of the most beautiful photography books of the last decade of the 20th century. "Hors de Commerce" (HC) Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with the Limited Edition of 190 numbered and signed copies. An austerely elegant production by Bjorn Keller: Oversize-volume format. A very tall and slim book. Handsome linen cloth boards with black titles embossed on cover and spine, as issued. Photographs by Bjorn Keller. Introduction by Lillemor Och Lars Borenius. Essay, "Cosmic Bodies", by Irene Berggren. List of Plates appended at the end. Printed on Stora Fine 150g For-eftersattsbla d pa Ingres stock paper in Stockholm, Sweden to the very highest standards. In pictorial DJ with black titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Presents the Swedish photographer's abstract images, all of them presented on the right-hand page only, the culmination of a lifelong artistic journey that began, as with most other photographers', with figurative, representational imagery (one of Keller's most celebrated images is a wolf on a mountain ridge). Some of the photographs are pure abstractions, and it would be pointless, as Irene Berggren points out, to decipher their original source. Most originated as male and female nudes, often unmistakably, sensuously, and even wittily so. Still, the degree of abstraction is such that seeing them as "nude studies" is reductive at best. Why bother with yet another experimental photographic enterprise? Because the photographs are disquietingly and vertiginously (Berggren's word) beautiful. "Male and female forms divide and unite in the pictures, filling their area and permeating them with playfulness and tension, seriousness and humor. The abstract forms absorb their sex. Characterized throughout by the consistent, and constant, disruption of what is in danger of becoming a habitual and secure creative method, and consequently threatens quiet aesthetic enjoyment" (Irene Berggren). In other words, great art as a never-ending quest and questioning, as a challenge that, when it results in something truly new and phenomenal, induces vertigo and renders all other art as predictable habit. A dazzling performance from a Swedish master. A "must-have" title for Bjorn Keller collectors. This is one of a limited number of "Hors de Commerce" (HC) copies, and is indicated as such on the Back Limitation Page. It is prominently, neatly, and beautifully signed and inscribed in fountain pen by the artist/photographer : "With compliments, BK". This is an Import title, was not widely distributed even in Sweden, and has been out-of-print for a long time. This is the only copy available online and is in fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. A rare signed copy thus. 34 color plates. One of the finest living artist/photographers. A fine collectible copy. . ISBN 9185786365. Signed..
