With large handsome woodcut title boarder by Meister der Jakobsleiter. Bound later (early 20th cent) vellum spine and corners with plain paper over boards, later endpapers; library stamp on front paste-down, recto of B1 and rear free endpaper; contents with many and various dampstains, light foxing, a few leaves repaired, most leaves have been rehinged. Previous owner's signature and date of 1898 at bottom of title and bottom of last leaf. A-G4, H3, lacking final blank. Benzing #2829. First Edition. Luther's important work on the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. "Admonition Concerning the Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Our Lord." Written during Luther's six month stay at Coburg, it appeared in print for the 1st time around the middle of November 1530. It circulated widely finding acceptance even in Switzerland among the Zwinglians. Ambrose Blaurer commended it to Bucer of Strassburg in these words: "Luther has come out with a splendid book on the sacrament which certainly pleases all our Zwinglians extremely well. They are manifestly satisfied that he talks this way about the presence of the body of Christ."--Luther's Works, v.38, pp.94-95. A detailed & impressive treatment of the Lord's Supper and its central meaning in the faith and life of the Christian community.
