ALAMANNI, LUIGI.
LA COLTIVATIONE DI LUIGI ALAMANNI AL CHRISTIANISSIMO RE FRANCESCO PRIMO. PARIS, ROBERT ESTIENNE (STEPHANUS), 1546.
4to. (3), 2 (misnumbered "3")-154, (2) ff. With woodcut printer's device on t. p. Early 18th-c. vellum with ms title to spine. First printing of the first edition. - Principal work of Luigi Alamanni, a friend of the Medicis, who after the fall of the Republic in 1630 moved to Paris, where his education and sophistication gained him the confidence of Kings Francois I and Henri II. - Schreiber emphasizes the uniqueness of this publication within the work of Estienne: it is the only book he ever printed in "grande italique" type and his only Italian work - in fact, the only book he ever printed in another modern language except French. - Complete with both ff. "Alla Serenissima madama la Dalphina" after the title page and both final ff. with the privilege and the errata on f. 154v, all of which are frequently lacking, according to Renouard. Hardly browned, clean copy in an Italian vellum binding around 1720. Adams A 409. BM-STC French 6. I.A. 102.049. Renouard I, 68, 22. OCLC 3995871. Armstrong 39, 49. Fairfax Murray 3. Mortimer 10.
