Title-page printed in red and black with a large woodcut of a splendid entry of Charles V; verso title-page with a similar large woodcut with woodcut border below. The first part with 170 mainly large woodcuts, the greater part has 2, 3 or 4 woodcut ornamental borders. The second part with large bust of Charles V on the title-page; a double-p. folded woodcut of the siege of Vienna and 28 other (large) woodcuts in the text. Contemp. richly blindstamped panelled calf over wood; bevelled sides; two brass clasps. Folio.*-First and only edition of this chronicle.-Leaf 59 and the last unnumb. leaf of the second part replaced by very good matching photogr. facsimiles. Very fine copy, almost without spotting. First + 50 leaves narrow waterstain in blank outermargin. Very carefully restored original binding; rebacked with use of original backstrip; new clasps and leather of clasps renewed; new endpapers. On the whole a desirable copy in its very fine original binding.-Nijhoff/Kronenberg 659; Bibliotheca Belgica C 318. The authorship is subject to discussion. Bibl. Belgica ascribes the main-work to Roelant de Doppere and Antoine de Roovere. The author of the second part is still unknown. Copies of this work are very rare, especially with the second part.
