DOMINICAN ANTIPHONAL

Very large leaf on vellum from an antiphonal. Italy, c.

      Large initial printed in red, beautifully embellished with maiblumen design in calligraphic mauve penwork, 8 one-line initials in red or blue with maiblumen decoration in red or mauve, two calligraphic initials in black, text in black ink in thick strokes, square musical notation of 5-line staves. Size of leaf: 563 x 414mm. On recto, four lines of musical notation and four lines of text, on verso, 15 lines of text in a handsome round, gothic script. 1500 A most handsome leaf; the fine iniial "L" introduces Psalm 147: "Lauda Jerusalem Doinum, Lauda Deus tuum". A little thumbed in lower outer corner, otherwise in excellent condition. Provenance: Folio Fine Art, MS. 1958.
