Iamblichus (ca 245 - ca 330) was a Syrian philosopher and one of the most important of the so-called Neoplatonic philosophers. He was a student of Porphyry, disciple of Plotinus, the founder of Neoplatonism. The true title of this work is: "Answer of Master Abammon to a Letter sent by Porphyry to Anebon and Solution of the Difficulties which can be Found there". An early edition, translated into Latin by Marsile Ficin (1433-1499).
