Rare early Lyon edition of Aristotle’s Meteorologica and his De Anima . De Anima is principally a work on psychology but also refers to biology, taxonomy, and Aristotle’s physical and metaphysical theory. Zimara’s version had been printed in Pavia in 1520. Meteorologica , a work on the earth sciences, was linked to Galenic-Hippocratic medicine in sixteenth century commentaries such as those of Pietro Pomponazzi, Lodovico Boccadiferro, Jacob Schegk and Francesco Vimercati. This link is based on a new understanding of medicine and Aristotle’s theory of “homeomerous” (uniform) substances and their relation to composite substances. This edition of the De Anima includes other texts at the end on medical science in the wider sense of the word: De Sensu & Sensato , De Memo & Remini , De Somno & Vigilia , De Causa Lo(n)gitudinis et Brevitatis Vitae and De Physionomia .With an early inscription, a plant drawing and cancelled library stamps on the endpapers. With a couple chips on title page restored, one affecting a few letters in the title, and early underlining and notes in ink. On a couple leaves the ink has eaten tiny holes in the paper. The binding is worn with cracks in the hinges and the ends of the backstrip damaged. An early edition of Aristotle’s works relating to medicine.
