DYT IS DEN AFLAET ende ghenaden van allen stacien binnen ende buten der heiligher stadt van Romen dat ganse iaer doer sijn te verdienen.

Only indulgence in Dutch that has survived! (Deventer, Jac. de Breda, 1516). Plano leaf, verso blank (42,5 x 29 cm). Attached with 2 strokes of paper on board, preserved in cloth slipcase. Woodcut of the papal coat-of-arms of Leo X. Only indulgence in Dutch recorded, not present in any library. Early indulgences printed in Holland are scarce as most of these did not survive the Reformation and the Eighty Years War, the Dutch war of independence against the Spanish Kings. People at whose houses such catholic relicts were found, risked to be arrested. The few indulgences that survived are all in latin. The present indulgence is printed in Dutch, at Deventer by Jac. de Breda, as the woodcut coat-of-arms of Pope Leo X (pope 1513-21) is also used in other works from his presses. The text is printed in two columns in Gothic, and contains: "Stacie inder vasten; Dit sint sonderlinge stacien die binnen komen; Stacie na Paschen to komen; Stacie inden Advent to komen". Good copy.- (Small hole in margin and in center with no loss; some sl. spotting). Nijhoff-Kronenberg 4179 (only one copy, which is the present FORUM copy!).
