      Pp. (vi), 177, (11). With one folding plan of Goa with a few small tears. Wormholes throughout mainly in margins but also slightly affecting the text, more severe to four leaves. Modern quarter calf on marbled boards. Library stamp on title page. First edition, published a year after the author's death. This work contains an historical account of Goa and an extensive chronological table representing the viceroys and governors of Goa and Portugese India, from its conquest in 1509 up to 1812. It also contains a description of the state and topography of Goa, and of the surrounding territories including information about the population, architecture, religion and customs. Cottineau de Kloguen was a French missionary born in Nantes. Already at a young age he showed great interest in the Christian religion. He wanted to expand his knowledge about the world and different religons and therefor he travelled to England and America and later on to India. About 370 copies were required by about 250 subscribers. A list of the subscribers is included at end. Rare. Brunet ii, p. 332. Graesse p. 286.
