Three interesting sermons by one of the leading protestant theologians of the 16th century Nürnberg, Künigund Hergotin 1533. 8vo. Later vellum. (40) lvs. Rare fourth edition of these three sermons by the reformed theologian and follower of Luther, Johan Brenz(en) or Brentius (1499-1570), one of the leading protestant theologians of his time. He found protection with Ulrich Duke of Würtemberg and later with his successor Duke Christoph. At their wish he composed the so-called 'Confessio Wütemburgica' (ed. 1552: Confessio Virtembergiae), was present at the Council of Trente, and reformed, together with other scholars, the University of Tübingen. His collected works were printed in eight volumes in Tübingen, 1576-1590 and Amsterdam, 1666. The first edition of these sermons appeared in 1529 in Augsburg, printed by Heinrich Steiner, the second: Nürnberg, Friedrich Peypus, 1532, the third: Wittemberg, Hans Lufft, 1532. Further editions of these apparently popular sermons were printed in Nürnberg (1549, 1550 and 1555), Leipzig (1548), and Frankfurt a/d Oder (1562).Contents:Fol. 1r: title on which the author is indicated as "Johan Brentius zu Schebischen Hall" (verso: blank).f. 2r-18r: Der erst Sermon von bereytung zu dem Sterben..f. 18r-31r: Der ander Sermon von Maria und Martha, hellt inn, wie man Got rechtschaffen dienen sol, Evangelion Luce X..f. 31v-39v:Der drit Sermon von dem klaffen und nachreden, uber die wort Luce.
