The Queer God
Taylor and Francis(Routledge) 2003 - Introduction Part I: Queering theology 1. Kneeling, deviant theologians 2. Queering hermeneutics 3. Queering God in relationships: Trinitarians and God the orgy 4. Libertine disclosures 5. Permutations 6. The economy of God's exchange rate mechanism Part II: Queer promiscuities 7. Popular anti-theologies of love 8. Demonology: Embodying rebellious spirits 9. Queer holiness: Postcolonial revelationsIn The Queer God , Marcella Althaus-Reid reflects on Latin American spiritual traditions and considers the need for a Queer concept of holiness and a theology of grace outside colonial parameters. There are those who go to gay bars and salsa clubs with rosaries in their pockets, and who make camp chapels of their living rooms. Others enter churches with love letters hidden in their bags, because their need for God and their need for love refuse to fit into different compartments. But what goodness and righteousness can prevail if you are in love with someone whom you are ecclesiastically not supposed to love? Where is God in a salsa bar? The Queer God introduces a new theology from the margins of sexual deviance and economic exclusion. Its chapters on Bisexual Theology, Sadean holiness, gay worship in Brazil and Queer sainthood mark the search for a different face of God - the Queer God who challenges the oppressive powers of heterosexual orthodoxy, whiteness and global capitalism. Inspired by the transgressive spaces of Latin American spirituality, where the experiences of slum children merge with Queer interpretations of grace and holiness, The Queer God seeks to liberate God from the closet of traditional Christian thought, and to embrace God's part in the lives of gays, lesbians and the poor. Only a theology that dares to be radical can show us the presence of God in our times. The Queer God creates a concept of holiness that overcomes sexual and colonial prejudices and shows how Queer Theology is ultimately the search for God's own deliverance. Using Liberation Theology and Queer Theory, it exposes the sexual roots that underlie all theology, and takes the search for God to new depths of social and sexual exclusion. FRENCH, JIM). French, Jim & Bruce Weber
LIKE A MOTH TO A FLAME: JIM FRENCH
Little Bear Press, New York 2003 - np (128pp), 71 illustrations in color and b&w + covers. Designed by Dmitri Levas. This brand new offering from Bruce Weber's Little Bear Press features pioneering male-figure photographer Jim French's collection of 1972 nude studies of object of affection, model David Skrivanek. An interview of French by Weber serves as the introduction for the book, and in the same way as "Chop Suey Club" adoringly captures Peter Johnson's moods and physique, so here does the camera linger throughout on the impressively chiseled (and endowed) Skrivanek. As with all of Little Bear's books, the quality of the design, paper and printing is impeccable. A pristine copy. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

This book takes a new look at this rapidly changing aspect of urban life, examining the relationships between young adults, nightlife and city spaces. It focuses on what the authors call 'urban nightscapes' - both mainstream and alternative youthful cultural activities in bars, pubs, night-clubs and music venues, which occur against a backdrop of increasing corporate influence in the night-time economy. TELLEZ VILLAR, Marcos.
Las Seguidillas Boleras.
Madrid. c1790 - Folio. (c.42 x 26 cm). Six leaves. Six engraved plates printed recto only on laid paper numbered 1 - 6, each with banner title and all coloured extensively by a contemporary hand. The plates bear the signature: 'Marcos Tellez, lo delinio y Gravo' or 'Marcos Tellez f.t.' apart from plate five which is signed 'M'. Contemporary stitched paper wrappers. Very rare collection of plates of Spanish dance, all featuring the guitar, and with contemporary Spanish hand-colouring. The six large plates depict a variety of dances with all participants wearing elaborate and beautiful costume with radiant contemporary colour. Each plate is titled above the dance with a banner headline. Most of the plates feature three characters, the two principal dancers, one male and one female with the guitarist taking a background position, focussed either on the dance or gazing in reverie into the distance. One plate features two male and one female dancer (plate 5, 'Embotadas de las Seguidillas Boleras') while in plate 3 ('Atabillos de las Seguidillas Boleras') a female guitarist with small black spaniel at her feet whose direct gaze engages with the viewer of the plate. Little is known of Marcos Tellez Villar, an artist said to have been active in Majorca, although it is clear that at some stage he reworked these plates, adding additional background details of houses, mountains, foliage and sky, as well as moving the title to below the action and changing the numbering. The titles of the plates are as follows: 1. Paseo de las Siguidillas Boleras. 2. Pistolees de las Segudillas Boleras. 3. Atabillos de las Seguidillas Boleras. 4. Campanelas de las Seguidillas Boleras. 5. Embotadas de las Seguidillas Boleras. 6. Un Pasar de las Seguidillas Boleras. [See Paisajes sonoros en el Madrid del S. Image size with matte, 10 7/8" x 7 7/8"; outside frame dimensions 15" x 12". Frame black, matting is slate. A stylish and immaculate rendering, by noted comics/monster artist Mike Hoffman, of Dark Horse-created comics villain Casanova Frankenstein, here appearing as he does in the comics, a bit more Hugh-Hefnerish than the movie incarnation played by Geoffrey Rush in the 1999 Ben Stiller / William H. Macy / Greg Kinnear / Janeane Garofalo cinematic offering from Kinka Usher. Hoffman, a Frazetta-influenced artist, is known for a variety of comics, magazine covers, CD packages sketchbooks and color collections, and hangs in private galleries. TSome of his titles are: "Tigress," "Lost Worlds," "Monsters & Maidens," "Madame Tarantula," "Octavia," "Sorceress" and the Gothic Western "Ballad of Utopia." He also illustrated a 24-page mag devoted to Russ Meyer's "fastest pussycat" Tura Satana. From the bmonster website, "Hoffman's Monster Muse" : "The prolific artist carries on in the spirit of Frank Frazetta, Wally Wood, Jack Davis and other legendary artists who transformed the tastes of the Monster Generation. His most overt influence is undoubtedly Frazetta, whose muscular barbarians and nubile maidens are flatteringly reincarnated (with a flair that is distinctly Hoffman's) in many of Mike's paintings." - Jeff Harvey Art . The Physics and Chemistry of Nanosolids
Wiley-Interscience. New PLEASE NOTE that we do not offer expedited shipping. Orders placed with the priority shipping option will automatically be canceled. A comprehensive textbook that addresses the recent interest in nanotechnology in the engineering, materials science, chemistry, and physics communities In recent years, nanotechnology has become one of the most promising and exciting fields of science, triggering an increasing number of university engineering, materials science, chemistry, and physics departments to introduce courses on this emerging topic. Now, Drs. Owens and Poole have revised, updated, and revamped their 2003 work, Introduction to Nanotechnology, to make it more accessible as a textbook for advanced undergraduate-and graduate-level courses on the fascinating field of nanotechnology and nanoscience. The Physics and Chemistry of Nanosolids takes a pedagogical approach to the subject and assumes only an introductory understanding of the physics and chemistry of macroscopic solids and models developed to explain properties, such as the theory of phonon and lattice vibrations and electronic band structure. The authors describe how properties depend on size in the nanometer regime and explain why these changes occur using relatively simple models of the physics and chemistry of the solid state. Additionally, this accessible book: Provides an introductory overview of the basic principles of solids Describes the various methods used to measure the properties of nanosolids Explains how and why properties change when reducing the size of solids to nano-dimensions, and what they predict when one or more dimensions of a solid has a nano-length Presents data on how various properties of solids are affected by nanosizing and examines why these changes occur Contains a chapter entirely devoted to theimportance of carbon nanostructured materials and the potential applications of carbon nanostructures The Physics and Chemistry of Nanosolids is complete with a series of exercises at

Cumberland, Rhode Island, U.S.A: Yale Univ Pr, 2003. New 0300099789. BRAND NEW, FLAWLESS COPY, NEVER OPENED-368 pages--DESCRIPTION: The most enduring work of its time, Reflections on the Revolution in France was written in 1790 and has remained in print ever since. Edmund Burke's analysis of revolutionary change established him as the chief framer of modern European conservative political thought. This outstanding new edition of the Reflections presents Burke's famous text along with a historical introduction by Frank M. Turner and four lively critical essays by leading scholars. The volume sets the Reflections in the context of Western political thought, highlights its ongoing relevance to contemporary debates, and provides abundant critical notes, a glossary, and a glossary-index to ensure its accessibility. Contributors to the book examine various provocative aspects of Burke's thought. Conor Cruise O'Brien explores Burke's hostility to "theory, " Darrin McMahon considers Burke's characterization of the French Enlightenment, Jack Rakove contrasts the views of Burke and American constitutional framers on the process of drawing up constitutions, and Alan Wolfe investigates Burke, the social sciences, and liberal democracy.
