Depero, Fortunato:
Twelvetrees Press, Altadena, California 1990 - 1/3000. Lg. 4to. Unpaginated. Dark blue cloth with silver lettering to cover and spine in original dj. Minor creasing, scuffing and discoloration to dj. "This volume presents a chronological arrangement of postmortem photography 1840-1930; no other collection of this material has been made available despite recent interest in the American way of death. What emerges is a vivid visual history of the changes in American customs. We can see the change in death concepts and funerary practices, from the image of death as a stark Puritan journey for a sinner to the late Victorian beautification of death and its interpretation as a restful sleep for a redeemed soul". Illustrated with sepia-toned and b/w photographs. Dj in very good, book in near fine condition. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

[Columbus, MS]: [Mississippi University for Women - MUW], 1990. - COPY #20 OF A LIMITED EDITION OF 28 POSTERS SIGNED BY EUDORA WELTY AND ARTIST ANTHONY THAXTON. Broadside (or poster) for a writers' symposium and conference held in Columbus, Miss. in the fall of 1990. Gray paper poster approximately H 20.5 inches x L 17.5 inches modestly presented within a dark brown mat border and metal frame, the latter being approximately H 24.25 inches x L 21 inches. Black lettering at poster's top and bottom: The Second Annual | Eudora Welty | Writers' Symposium | Mississippi University for Women | Columbus, Mississippi | October 11-13, 1990." Signed in ink by Eudora Welty just below the aforementioned title lettering's "Woman" at the poster's bottom right. Eudora Welty attended MUW (then called Mississippi State College for Women or MSCW) for her freshman and sophomore years from 1925 to 1927 before transferring to University of Wisconsin at Madison. MUW still continues the annual symposium - now nearing its twentieth anniversary - acknowledging its most famous alumna and there is a nascent movement in the state to rename the university in honor of the Pulitzer Prize winning author. A 1989 graduate of Mississippi School for Math and Science, a magnet high school on the MUW campus, Anthony Thaxton designed the poster for the 1990 Eudora Welty Writers' Symposium while a freshman at Mississippi College in Jackson, Mississippi. The posters were signed by Thaxton and Welty at the symposium and Thaxton is now an artist in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The 1990 Eudora Welty Writers' Symposium theme was titled "Finding A Voice: A New Generation of Southern Writing" and featured authors Clyde Edgerton, Larry Brown, Kaye Gibbons, Dennis Covington, James Clark, Dori Sanders, Vicki Covington, Ann Deagon, and Eudora Welty and scholars Nancy Walker (winner of the Welty Prize), Missy D. Kubitschek, and Thomas Richardson. An unusual Eudora Welty collectible with an exceedingly small edition. Please email or phone for shipping information; jpeg images emailed upon request. Byatt, A.S.
Possession: a Romance
New York: Random House, 1990. Fine in Fine jacket Used: Like New. This pristine book was awarded the Booker Prize and Irish Times/Aer Lingus International Fiction Prize in 1990. Two contemporary scholars, each immersed in the study of one of two Victorian poets, discover evidence of a previously unimagined relationship between their subjects: R. H. Ash and Christabel LaMotte had secretly conducted an extramarital romance. The scholars become "possessed" by their dramatic finds. "This cerebral extravaganza of a story zigzags with unembarrassed zest across an imaginative terrain bristling with symbolism and symmetries, shimmering with myth and legend, and haunted everywhere by presences of the past....Possession is eloquent about the intense pleasures of reading. And, with sumptuous artistry, it provides a feast of them. "---The Sunday Times (London)
