Folio, original half black morocco, green cloth boards, original black cloth slipcase. $2200. Signed limited first edition, number 225 of only 550 copies, illustrated with six rich photogravures, signed by Siskind in the colophon. "Through his use of form, emotional timbre, and iconography, Siskind's work reflects one man's struggle to understand his life in relation to the world. His imagery, on one level, is autobiographical, encompassing all the many political, social, sexual, aesthetic, and introspective observations of a long and complex life" (Carl Chiarenza). Whitman sees "paths worn in the irregular hollows by the roadside," and the "flagg'd walks of the cities." Siskind interprets Whitman in his images of "tar poured into the cracks of light-colored concrete roads, forming swirls and curves and parallel lines." Original prospectus laid in. A beautiful production in fine condition.

In 1992 he received an Acorn Award recognizing ¿Those Who Shape the Future¿ from the Kentucky Advocates for Higher Education. In 1995 he became one of six charter members elected to the Bank Marketing Hall of Fame. He has also received a ¿Distinguished Alumni Award¿ from the University of Maryland. During his career he has published in the Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Retailing, Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Social Psychology, Journal of Business Research, and Operations Research, among others. The Edinburgh cabinet and chair-makers' Books of Pricesare the key documents for understanding Scottish furniture of the late-eighteenth and early-nineteenth centuries. They were written by societies of cabinet and chair-makers in order to prevent disputes between Masters and Journeymen, but they are of capital interest for their precise descriptions of furniture made in the city during a particular historical period. In this way, the price books provide a clear view of Edinburgh's most fashionable furniture at a time when the New Town was being built; when new patterns of urban living were being developed, and when the city's furniture-making trade was at the height of its prosperity. This new book contains a reprint of the original text and illustrations of the Edinburgh cabinet-makers' Books of Prices for 1805, 1811, 1821; the Supplement of 1825 and the Edinburgh Chair-makers' Book of Prices of 1825. An introductory essay analyses the furniture, explains it distinctive regional character, origins and use and, most importantly, brings to life the early text by illustrating newly-discovered pieces of furniture that correspond to the original specifications. First American edition of the Russian chess champion's autobiography, signed by Kasparov on the title page and dated 04.02.2004. Chess prodigy Kasparov was tapped by the Soviet Union at an early age: "At the age of 12, much the youngest competitor, Kasparov won the USSR junior (under 18) championship, undefeated, and repeated the success the following year, this time conceding only a single draw" (Hooper & Whyld, 193). "When Kasparov was six, he shocked his family by solving a difficult endgame puzzle from the newspaper. 'Since Garry knows how the game ends,' his father remarked, 'we ought to teach him how it begins.' Sixteen years and many thousands of training hours later, Kasparov became the youngest-ever world chess champion at 22. His greatness was also enduring. Kasparov held the world championship from 1985 to 2000, and even after losing the title he retained the highest ranking in the world. Perhaps more significantly, as he neared middle age at the dawn of the 21st century, Kasparov was one of the few human beings left who could effectively compete with the top chess computers" (Shenk, 205). Kasparov's achievements in the field of chess are many: "In 1976, he was the strongest player in the world under age 13. He became a grandmaster at 17, the youngest Soviet champion at 18 and the youngest world champion at 22 years, 210 days. He became the World Junior Champion in 1980 and co-champion of the USSR in 1981! In May, 1997 he lost a match with the chess computer DEEP BLUE. In 1993 he broke away from FIDE and defeated Nigel Short for the PCA World Championship. In 2000 he lost his title to Vladimir Kramnik in the Braingames World Chess Championship, but continues to be the highest rated chess player in the world. He has been the world's #1 rated player since 1984. From 1981 to 1991 he did not lose a single chess event. He successfully defended his world chess championship title more times than any champion. From 1981 to 1990, Kasparov won 15 straight tournaments in a row. After winning Linares (but losing his last game to Topalov) in 2005, he announced his retirement from chess on March 10, 2005" (Bill Wall, Off the Wall). Mr. Love started reading and collecting sci fi in the 1950's and went on to become one of the earliest and premier software writers on the planet, working first for Control Data, Boeing, and Space Labs before become the lead on Microsoft's SQL server program. With a group of friends he helped developed the bar code system that now moves the US Mail. Mr. Love passed away in 2006 and we are aiding his family in the sale of his library ranging from science fiction and fantasy to cryptography to chess to martial arts. We have more of his personal library available and a portion of the sales go directly to his family. Robert Jordan was his favorite author and we have several signed editions of his books available.
