- Paris, Grasset, 1957. 1 vol. (188 x 120 mm) de 224 pp., broché, non coupé. Edition originale. Un des 162 exemplaires (n° XII) sur vélin pur fil. Jointe : Lettre autographe signée (1 feuillet, 210 x 135 mm, recto-verso) à « Mon bien cher Bernard » (Grasset) datée du 10 mai 1954 à Saint-Jean Cap Ferrat, lui soumettant le projet de cet ouvrage et son titre définitif. Après une crise cardiaque qui le retient couché, Cocteau «retrouve l?ébauche d?un texte rapporté d?Espagne». De cette ébauche naîtra ce livre, annoncé par l?auteur à son ami Bernard Grasset (cf. lettre jointe) comme «une étude assez curieuse sur la fiesta de Toros». Singulière étude en effet où Cocteau, par exemple, se demande si les arènes de Séville et les couses dangereuses auxquelles il assista ne sont pas responsables de son accidentcardiaque et si «le sang [qu?il] reprochait au spectateur de ne pas suer, ne se coagulait pas» en lui «par suite d?une collaboration émotive de [ses] centres nerveux»!

End-paper inscription. * Part autobiography and part detailed account of South African waters. The author based a good deal of his text on reports he had written for the South African government. He "seems to have compiled these reports by conscientiously fishing every stream, river and dam in South Africa". Much also on the author's pioneering work introducing trout to previously untouched South African waters. "If you only ever collect one book, let it be Rapture Of The River. There will never be another that sums up the soul of South African fly fishing as brilliantly." (Paul Curtis in Fishing The Margins, 2005). * Other copies seen state the limitation to have been only 200 copies and are signed by the author. This copy is not signed or numbered, but is nevertheless a very nice copy of an exceedingly rare book. Laid in this copy is a note from a previous owner, Martin Coyne, lending it to a friend, ".treat it with the same care that you reserve for your favourite mistress." The front free end-paper has a short inscription (not by the author) to Mr Coyne, and a tape-mark. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

Turkish Press, Broadcasting and Tourist Department, Ankara ? 1957 - There are 45 pp of texts (sub-titled XII to XIX Centuries) followed by no less than 85 colour and 59 monochromes on 75 plates. The book itself starts with an eleven page listing of the 144 drawings, sometimes in considerable detail. This is followed by Oz' text (45 pp, and subtitled "XII to XIX Centuries) and ends with the plates which show 85 items in colour and only 59 in monochrome. As a guide to the wonderful ceramics which the Turks produced over so many hundred years, this can hardly be bettered. NOTE : The original covers of the book were so poor that they had to be scrapped and, in keeping with the book's merits, the contents have been properly rebound in a half leather binding, with cloth sides, gold letterings across the spine, and all edges "speckled". To complete the job, there is also a stout box to protect ther binding : how useful this has been can be seen from the odd scuff mark etc. on the box ! [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

Ediciones Meridion, Buenos Aires 1957 - Buen ejemplar con hermosa dedicatoria. In 4º, 210 pp., (incluye Anteportada y Portada, v. en bl.). Con 9 fotografías fuera de numeración. Encuadernación posterior en pasta española, con su cubierta original. De puño y letra, por el autor, ésta dedicatoria: "a Alberto Dodero Chistophersen, con sus // mejores sentimientos de amistad. Buenos Aires Abril 1958". Dionisio Schoo Lastra, hijo de un mayordomo de Rosas, se crió en la estancia "La Benencia", con su padre ya independizado. El autor del título ahora ofrecido (y de otras obras de carácter histórico), fue por su parte, legislador y secretario del presidente Julio A. Roca. A medio camino entre el ensayo histórico, el estudio antropológico y la literatura costumbrista, "El indio del desierto" es uno de los libros más curiosos que se han publicado sobre los antiguos habitantes de la Pampa. Su autor, además de haber vivido muchos años en la Pampa, "no lanza una sola mención antojadiza" según dijera Clodomiro Zavalia en el prólogo a su primera edición, y sostiene toda su erudición en un previo esfuerzo de documentación y en los testimonios que tuvo oportunidad de recoger de boca del general Julio Roca, sobre la llamada "conquista del Desierto".

Very scarce. Netta Muskett (b. 1887 - d. 1963) was a British writer of more than 50 romance novels from 1927 to 1964. She continued writing until the day of her death and her last novel, Cloudbreak, was published posthumously. Her novels are translated to several languages, including: Spanish, French, Portuguese, Finnish, Swedish and Danish.Netta Muskett was vice-president of the Romantic Novelists' Association, that created in her honour the Netta Muskett Award for new writers. - Kokoschka was born in Prague, trained as an artist in Vienna and exhibited at a Vienna Secession movement exhibition for which he was expelled from the School of Arts and Crafts. In 1938, after the German annexation of Austria, Kokoschka returned to Prague then emigrated to London where he became a citizen. He finally moved to Switzerland. He refers to the wife of German composer Wilhelm Furtwangler (1886-1954) who also left Germany ultimately for Switzerland. They met in 1949 when Furtwangler persuaded Kokoschka to design sets for Salzburg Music Festival. Kokoschka was a successful artist throughout his lifetime, and his importance has grown since his death. He writes to the art publisher, Waldemar Klein first thanking him for his support regarding, "the lithos for Hungary." He continues, "Frau Dr. Furtwangler, with whom we just spent a week in St. Moritz, was also delighted. I chose the head of the suffering Christ under the assumption that it was a 'speaking" image which reminds us how humanity is becoming nationless in this world where the byword democracy is on everyone's lips while displacement and liquidation of entire peoples is continuing without a care and the number of concentration camps, refugee camps is increasing yearly. The individual has become an abstraction, maybe therein lies the deeper cause of the tragedy of the most recent past, perhaps the graphic artist may keep his eyes open and put the writing on the walI, yet it will serve as a warning to nobody as long as society keeps putting its head in the sandÉ was never in Budapest [and] would have to depend on photos and postcards to produce a painting. Respected modern artists are won't to do this, but it is not for meÉ" Signed, "Oskar Kokoschka."
